In short: your portfolio data stays in your browser. Monilen has no server of its own that receives your data, no accounts, no cookies and no analytics. As with any website, the hosting service logs technical data about visits.
What data is stored and where
- Portfolios, assets and transactions (including your notes), watchlists, goals, expected dividend payments, your target allocation, your investment theses with their history, the themes you give your assets, the broker and country of each portfolio and the losses from previous years that you enter for tax purposes: in your browser’s local storage (
localStorage), on this device. - Holdings of your ETFs and funds (X-ray), if you import or type them in: each fund’s holdings with their country, sector and weight, the date of the holdings data and the file name. The file you choose is read only in your browser and is not sent anywhere; what is stored is kept in
localStorageand included in the JSON backup. - Preferences (theme, privacy mode, chosen metrics, recently searched assets, date of your last backup, Overview blocks and their order, Holdings columns, density, number format – your language’s or the one you choose in Settings – start screen, last portfolio used and the day of your last visit): also in your browser.
- Chosen language (
monilen.lang): onlyes(Spanish) oren(English), to show you the website in that language. It is not personal data. It is only stored if you choose a language or reach the tracker from a page in English. - Last ‘What’s new’ entry seen: only the date of the last What’s new entry you opened and how many points it had, to show you a discreet notice when there are new changes.
- Twelve Data request counter, if you use your key: only the times of your latest requests and how many you have made today, so as not to exceed the free limit (8 per minute and 800 per day) even if you reload or open several tabs. It contains nothing from your portfolio.
- Tab that fetches prices: a random identifier of the tab that updates prices and the time of its last signal, so that, with several tabs open, only one of them makes requests. The others are notified within the browser itself (without any internet connection). It contains nothing from your portfolio.
- Repair after an update (
monilen.repair, in session storage, which is cleared when you close the tab): a flag so that the automatic cache repair does not loop if the website fails to start. Open tabs tell each other about new prices through an internal browser channel (monilen-prices), with no internet connection. None of this contains anything from your portfolio. - Commodities: for your ETCs, ETFs and funds, the commodity they track, if you enter it. It is kept in
localStorageand included in the JSON backup and in the transactions CSV. When you choose one, the product finder sends your data provider (with your key) only the search text, like any other search. - API keys for Twelve Data or Finnhub, if you add them: in your browser. They are never included in backups and you can delete them in Settings.
- Calendar: the earnings dates you add to your shares (with their note) and, for each fixed-term deposit, account or bond, how its interest or coupons are paid, a payment date and the nominal value, if you enter them. They are kept in
localStorageand included in the JSON backup. The calendar view and the event types you choose to see are also stored in the browser. - Downloaded prices: in a cache in your browser (IndexedDB) to avoid repeating requests and to respect each provider’s free limits, together with a flag on assets from exchanges that the free plan does not cover (so as not to ask again for 24 hours). While Monilen is open and the tab is visible, prices update automatically: US shares only while their exchange is open and at the pace allowed by the free requests, and currencies once a day. While the tab is hidden, nothing is requested. The same cache holds the official data from Calendar & data (indicators and BOE notices) and the earnings dates provided by Finnhub, so they are not requested again for a few hours.
None of this is ever sent to a Monilen server (there isn’t one) or to third parties. Whoever publishes this website has no access to your portfolio data. Bear in mind that anyone who uses this browser on your device could see it.
What is sent over the internet
The only external connections are requests for prices, exchange rates and official data (those for Your plan and for Calendar & data: Calendar and Official data). They carry only the asset’s symbol (for example, AAPL or BTCEUR), the currency code or official series code or, when you search for a share, an ETF or a cryptocurrency to add or analyse it, the text you search for (the asset’s name or ticker), and your key, only to its own provider. Quantities, amounts, portfolio or list names, goals, notes and personal data are never sent. Requests are made without cookies and without a referrer header.
Monilen’s search (the magnifying glass, or Ctrl/⌘ + K), which finds features, questions, terms, calculators, official data, books, What’s new entries and, in the tracker, your assets and transactions, sends nothing: it searches within your browser, without artificial intelligence, and does not store what you type (there is no search history).

As with any internet connection, each provider also receives your IP address, technical details of your browser (for example, the ‘user agent’) and Monilen’s address as the origin of the request. Each handles them under its own privacy policy, as an independent controller. Some are outside the European Economic Area (Binance, Coinbase, Twelve Data, Finnhub, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the World Bank).
Monthly and annual report. The portfolio report is created in your browser from your data and opens in your browser’s print dialogue, from which you save it as a PDF or print it: it does not go through any server. With ‘Percentages only’ it contains no amounts at all. Store it appropriately: it contains information about your wealth.
Exporting the calendar. The Calendar’s .ics file is created in your browser and downloaded to your device: it does not go through any server. It contains the dates and, if you choose, the amounts from your portfolio; with privacy mode on, it is created without amounts. Store it appropriately.
Website hosting and visit logs
Monilen is served by Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc.). As with any website, when you visit it your browser sends Cloudflare technical connection data: your IP address, the address of the page you request, the date and time, and browser and device details (for example, the ‘user agent’). None of it includes anything from your portfolio.
- Purpose: to deliver the website and protect it against abuse and attacks.
- Legal basis: the legitimate interest in keeping the website working and secure (Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation).
- Who processes it: Cloudflare, as a data processor, under the data processing agreement that forms part of its terms.
- Where: Cloudflare may process it outside the European Economic Area, mainly in the United States. According to its information, it participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and, failing that, relies on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
- How long: for the period set out in Cloudflare’s privacy policy, which keeps it for as long as it needs it for those purposes.
- Monilen has not enabled any cookies or analytics tools on Cloudflare.
No profiling or automated decisions. Monilen does not profile you or take automated decisions about you, and you do not have to give any personal data to use it.
Your rights. You can ask for access to, rectification or erasure of your data, restriction of processing or data portability, or object to processing. Whoever publishes Monilen does not hold your portfolio data (it is only in your browser) and generally cannot link the technical logs to you. If you believe your rights have not been respected, you can lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD, www.aepd.es).
Why there is no cookie notice
Monilen does not use cookies, analytics tools, trackers, advertising, or third-party fonts or scripts. All libraries are included in the website itself.
The only thing it uses is your browser’s storage (localStorage and IndexedDB) to keep your own portfolio, your preferences and the price cache. That storage is strictly necessary for the website to do what you ask of it (without it, it could not remember your portfolio), it is not used to identify you or to track you across other websites and it is never sent to anyone. That is why there is no need to ask for your consent or to show a cookie notice.
You can delete it at any time from Settings (‘Delete all my data’) or from your browser’s settings.
Backups and deletion
- You can export all your data as JSON (full backup) or your transactions as CSV, and import them again, from Settings. You can also import your broker’s files (DEGIRO, Trade Republic, Interactive Brokers, Portfolio Performance) or any CSV or Excel (.xlsx) file: the file is read only in your browser, is not sent anywhere, and you always see a preview before saving.
- Password-encrypted backup. You can also export the full backup encrypted with a password of your choice. It is encrypted in your browser with Web Crypto, the encryption built into the browser itself (key derived with PBKDF2-SHA-256 and 600,000 iterations, AES-256-GCM encryption), without external libraries or servers. The password is not stored anywhere or sent to anyone. To open the backup, import it into Monilen and enter the password. If you forget the password, the backup cannot be recovered: neither you, nor Monilen, nor anyone else can open it.
- Important: if you clear your browser data, use a private window or change device, your data will not be there. Export a backup regularly.
- If more than 30 days go by without exporting a backup, Monilen reminds you with a discreet notice (the date of your last backup is stored only in your browser).
- The ‘Delete all my data’ button in Settings removes portfolios, lists, goals, settings, keys and stored prices from this browser.
No advice
Monilen shows data and analysis for information purposes. It does not provide financial, investment or tax advice, nor does it make investment recommendations: it does not say what to buy, sell or hold, rate assets as good or bad, or predict prices. Metrics describe past performance and do not guarantee future results. Prices may be delayed or contain errors from the provider.
Calculations use only the data and assumptions you enter and follow the same rules for everyone: Monilen does not take into account your circumstances, objectives or attitude to risk, and does not assess whether a product is suitable for you. Monilen is not authorised or supervised by the CNMV (Spain’s securities regulator) or any other authority, and does not provide investment services.
The sample portfolio uses simulated prices generated by the website itself: they are not real market data.
Estimates and simulations. Some figures are estimates and the website marks them as such: the dividend forecast and calendar (based on your expected payments or on repeating the payments you received in the last 12 months, because there is no free source with future dates), the value of fixed-term deposits (simple accrued interest, gross), the annual cost from the TER, projections for goals and costs (using the return you choose), the scenario simulator (beta, duration and assumptions by asset type; for historical crises, the asset’s actual data is used if available and, if not, the reference fall in the S&P 500 published by S&P Dow Jones Indices) and ‘What if I add it?’ (historical data). None of them is a prediction or a recommendation.
Your plan. The financial independence, retirement, compound interest, inflation and cost calculators are projections using the assumptions you choose (return, inflation, spending, age…), and the website marks them as such. They are calculated in your browser, in today’s euros and before tax unless stated otherwise. You enter your state pension yourself: Monilen does not calculate it. Past inflation comes from the INE’s CPI; before 2002, the index is linked using the published monthly changes (rounded to one decimal place) and marked as an approximation. You choose the withdrawal rate: the often-quoted 4% figure comes from studies using historical US data (Bengen, 1994; Cooley, Hubbard and Walz, 1998) and is neither a rule nor a guarantee. None of these figures is a prediction or a recommendation.
Realised gains. These are calculated using the average purchase cost, which is useful for measuring returns. They are not tax figures: the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT) requires the FIFO method, which the Tax (Spain) screen uses.
Tax information for guidance only. The Tax (Spain) screen is an aid to preparing your income tax return in the common tax territory (Spain excluding the Basque Country and Navarre), not tax advice. Working in your browser with the data you record, it calculates capital gains and losses using FIFO by ISIN (combining all your portfolios), the two-month or one-year repurchase rule, fund switches, dividends and interest with their withholding taxes, an indicative double taxation relief, offsets between years, an estimated tax liability using the savings income tax rates and an informative summary for Forms 720 and 721. Legislation may change, every case has nuances that Monilen does not know about and you are responsible for your tax return: check it against the Spanish Tax Agency’s draft return and, if in doubt, with a tax adviser.
Currencies. The currency effect is based on the ECB’s daily rates. ETF and fund exposure by country and the simulation of a currency rising or falling are approximations and are marked as such.
Benchmarks are tracked through ETFs that replicate them (SPY for the S&P 500, URTH for the MSCI World and EWP, which tracks the MSCI Spain, as an approximation of the IBEX 35), converted to euros using ECB rates. S&P 500, MSCI World, MSCI Spain and IBEX 35 are trademarks of their respective owners, as are the ETFs mentioned; Monilen has no connection with them and mentions them only to describe the data.

With both keys, Finnhub provides the day’s price and Twelve Data the history, and each one stands in for the other if it fails, does not cover an asset or runs out of free requests; with only one key, that one is used. Each price shows which provider it comes from, and the price panel includes ‘Data provided by Twelve Data’. Earnings dates for US companies come from Finnhub’s earnings calendar (free plan: upcoming dates and one month of history); its analyst estimates are not used.

- Official dates in the Calendar, checked on 4 November 2026 and reviewed every year: monetary policy meetings of the ECB and the Federal Reserve (the Federal Reserve’s 2027 dates are provisional), the INE’s 2026 release calendar (in Spanish) and deadlines of the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT) (in Spanish) (2025 income tax and wealth tax return campaign; Forms 720 and 721 from 1 January to 31 March, Order HAP/72/2013 and Order HFP/886/2023).
- Tax (rules checked on 6 November 2026): Personal Income Tax Act 35/2006 (IRPF) (in Spanish) (Articles 25, 33, 35, 37, 46, 49, 66, 76, 80, 94 and 101), Personal Income Tax Regulations (in Spanish), Royal Decree 1065/2007 (in Spanish) (Forms 720 and 721), the Spanish Tax Agency’s practical manual for the 2025 income tax return and the double taxation agreements published in the BOE (withholding limits on dividends from the United States, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Luxembourg, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Austria, Canada, Japan and Australia; no agreement in force with Denmark).

- ETF and fund X-ray: holdings data is provided by each user, with the file they download from their fund manager’s website (for personal use, under each fund manager’s terms) or by typing it in by hand. Monilen does not download holdings data, does not include data from any fund manager and does not connect to their websites. iShares is a trademark of BlackRock; Monilen is not affiliated with it.
